Ugochi is derived from the two Igbo words: Ugo and Chi.
It is typically short of the Igbo expression 'Ugo-chi-nyere', meaning 'the honor/excellence/beauty bestowed by Chi'.
While Ugochi and Ugochukwu have the same meaning and are drawn from the same expression. Ugochi is usually borne by females while Ugochukwu borne by male.
Cultural context
The eagle (Ugo) is the symbol of excellence, honour, and beauty among the Igbos which is why titled men wear the quill feather of the eagle on their caps. Hence, when Ugo appears in a name, it alludes to the qualities believed to be apparent in the eagle.
